Having taught Drama/Vocal instruction since 2003 Mr. Daniel is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and expertise with Tuscarora’s finest in preparing them for their post secondary careers. Since Mr. Daniel began working at Tusky, the department has been awarded 15 Cappie Nominations (placing 5 out of 80 schools), invited to participate in the National High School Theatre Festival, earned multiple Superior ratings at the district and regional levels and earned a number of Best Actor awards in local and state competitions. Under his mentorship, the Tuscarora Odyssey of the Mind team placed 7th at the world competition (out of 58 teams). He has also served on the judging panels for numerous district and state-wide events.
He previously worked at both Belmont Ridge and J.L. Simpson Middle Schools as the drama sponsor and founded the Northern Virginia Preparatory Theatre Company, a select group of auditioned secondary students who were preparing for professional careers in the Theatre Arts. Over his career, he has directed over forty productions including: Steel Magnolias, 12 Angry Men, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, Seussical, Once on this Island, Sound of Music, Bye Bye Birdie, Children of Eden, High School Musical, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol, A Raisin in the Sun, and Annie. His past honors include directing the highest ranking productions at the Virginia Theatre Association’s Young People’s Competition two years in a row (against 13 middle schools across the state) and coaching Odyssey of the Mind teams that have won 1st, 2nd & 3rd places in the Regional and State Tournaments. Mr. Daniel obtained his B.F.A. Music Theatre degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia and currently is working on his MA in Theatre Education at The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC (click here for more info on CUA's program).

Having taught band since 2011 Ms. Newmiller's primary goal is to ensure that all of her students are comfortable being themselves and have a safe environment to express themselves in. Since she began working at Tusky, the department has been awarded 3 Virginia State Honor Band awards, invited to march in the Pearl Harbor Day Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii, and earned titles such as 2014 SVMI Champions, 2016 SVMI runner-up, 2015 US Bands State Champions, 2015-2017 AIA Winter Guard Champions, 2012 and 2015 AIA Indoor Drumline Champions, and 2016 Participation in US Bands Nationals.
She started teaching band in 2011 when Tuscarora opened. Over her career she has conducted the Tuscarora pit band in all 7 Tusky musicals including: Sister Act, The Wiz, Cats, Once On This Island.
